What should you think about when selecting a program?

While several programs offer overlapping certification pathways, here are a few key questions to help guide your decision:

  • Which certifications are available? MiCAREER and similar programs may not cover every option.

  • Can they assess your prior experience? Some programs may shorten your path based on demonstrated competencies.

  • What are the eligibility requirements?

  • What higher education credentials are needed? (Talent Together supports individuals without a bachelor’s or associate degree.)

  • What additional supports are provided? (MiCAREER, for example, offers a summer leadership experience focused on community engagement and leadership development.)

Is your district considered rural?

We use the definition of “rural” from the Educational Opportunities and Community Development in Rural Michigan: A Roadmap for State Policy report (Arsen, Delpier, Gensterblum, Jacobsen, & Stamm, 2022). This includes both rural and town designations as defined by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
